The murderer entered Boğaziçi University saying, "I came to a wedding!"

Ayberk Kurtuluş, who shot and killed Hilal Özdemir in a cafe on Boğaziçi University's South Campus, ended his own life with the same weapon. Police and paramedics were dispatched to the scene upon receiving a report. Upon examination, paramedics determined that Özdemir and Kurtuluş were dead. Investigators began an investigation and determined that the gun seized at the scene was unlicensed. After the necessary procedures were completed, the bodies of Özdemir and Kurtuluş were taken to the Forensic Medicine Institute morgue.
HE ENTERED IN SAID, "I CAME TO THE WEDDING"Hilal Özdemir allegedly wanted to break up with her former friend Ayberk Kurtuluş some time ago, but Kurtuluş became obsessed with her and stalked her. Özdemir reportedly told her family about the incident, and was subsequently re-enrolled in a state school in Kağıthane. It was revealed that Kurtuluş called Özdemir on the day of the incident, saying, "Let's meet one last time." Özdemir then sent her the location of the cafe where she worked part-time. Kurtuluş then drove to the campus entrance, saying, "I'm here for a wedding," and entered the campus without being searched.
It was reported that Özdemir and Kurtuluş met on campus around noon and argued. Another woman approached them and pushed Kurtuluş, prompting Ayberk Kurtuluş to get into his car and drive away. Ayberk Kurtuluş returned to campus in his car that evening, telling security guards he was attending a wedding and entering without being searched again. Kurtuluş reportedly called Özdemir back and killed the young woman by shooting her in the head during the argument. He then shot himself in the head with a gun.
24 CRIMINAL RECORDPolice investigation determined that the weapon Kurtuluş used in the incident was an unregistered, blank-firing pistol. It was determined that Hilal Özdemir worked part-time at a cafe on campus, while Ayberk Kurtuluş lied to security guards to gain entry. The investigation revealed that Ayberk Kurtuluş has 24 prior criminal records. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
STATEMENT FROM THE UNIVERSITYBoğaziçi University released a statement on social media regarding the incident. The statement read, "We have learned with sorrow that a civilian lost his life as a result of an armed attack at the Kale Gate on our University's South Campus. The perpetrator subsequently committed suicide with the same weapon. Our University is cooperating with the judicial investigation being conducted by the prosecutor's office. We pray for God's mercy upon the deceased and offer our condolences to his grieving family and loved ones. We respectfully present this information to the public."
